Dash Tech

The dash board for the Firebirds and Trans Am's did not change much from 1970 - 1981. They all used the same base design, there were differences in trim type, gauges, gauge cluster style and steering wheel. Some models came with full gauges, some with partial there doesn't seem to be any consistent pattern. The only distinguishing note is all Trans Am's came with the "engine turned" (silver) dash plate.

Firebird dash, standard steering wheel, with AC, basic gauges, no engine turned dash (silver).

74 Trans Am, formula steering wheel, full rally gauges, AC and 8-track player in the console. All the options.

77 Formula dash, formula steering wheel, full rally gauges, AC, rear defroster, formula's didn't have the engine turned dash until later years.

81 Formula, engine turned dash, (after mkt wheel), full rally gauges, except no tachometer even with the four speed and no AC.

In 1981, the last year for the second generation, the font style on the gauges changed.

An example of the fully raly gauges, fuel relocated from center, to the right of the dash, volt gauge added right beside it.

Nice example of standard Trans Am interior.

Different text and speedometer maximum amounts were used over the years. The 160 mph speedo was used in the early years, then 100 mph used in the late seventys. The 140 KPH is the Canadian version of the American 85 MPH speedo. Thanks to Kirby for providing this info.

Yes, they even made a totally green interior. Nice
