Description:
The PA Performance 130 AMP Alternator Kit is a very popular replacement where significantly increased capacity is needed. As a replacement there are not modifications needed. If you are upgrading from a lower output or smaller unit minor bracket clearance, modification may be needed. This kit is more popular for highly (electrically) modified cars. This unit will triple the charging capacity at all RPM Ranges with minimal modifications from smaller units.
• This unit is nearly a direct replacement or mounts only with minor mounting bracket modifications
• 80 AMPS at idle (2000 alternator shaft rpm)
• 160 AMPS maximum (6000 alternator shaft rpm)
• The stock belt can be used on original equipment vehicles
• Actual Alternator Weight is 15.4 lbs
• All units are 100% NEW and come complete with internal voltage regulator and pulley
• All alternators are 100% new, tested at time of assembly
• We require that you upgrade the main power wire due to higher output than stock on vehicles where this is an upgrade
How an Alternator Works - An alternator makes power by rotating a magnetic field through a conductor. To better understand this we must go over the main components of the alternator.
• Rotor - The rotor is the rotating winding or mass inside of the alternator. The rotor consists of a coil of copper contained within two pieces of steel. The coil is one continuous piece of copper that connects to the copper slip ring at the top of the rotor. When opposing charges are applied to either side of the coil it creates an electromagnet. So there is our magnetic field.
• Stator - The stator is a collection of steel laminates all sandwiched together with multiple strands of copper woven throughout it. Just as the rotor is the rotating winding, the stator is the fixed or stationary winding. The rotor rotates within the stator making it our conductor.
• Voltage Regulator - The voltage regulator serves two functions. The first function is to field the rotor which means it provides the current to either side of the coil inside the rotor creating the magnetic field. The second function is actually a part of the first function. When the regulator fields the rotor it controls the voltage output by varying the field current supplied.
• Rectifier - The rectifier changes alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). The raw power that comes from the stator is actually alternating current or AC. The rectifier takes this AC and through a series of diodes which converts it to direct current or DC which is what your vehicle uses.
To sum up how this works; power is provided to the voltage regulator which fields the rotor causing it to create magnetism. Then the rotation of the engine turns the alternator pulley which turns the rotor. By rotating the magnetic field inside of the stator AC current is produced. This AC current is passed through the rectifier and turned into DC current which is then fed to the battery in the vehicle.

Q: What is an alternator? Why buy one?
A: The job of the alternator is to keep your battery charged up and supply electricity to your vehicle when the engine is running. High-output alternators replace your original unit with an alternator that can produce more power with every rotation of the engine. These performance units are ideal for vehicles equipped with large-draw electrical accessories such as aftermarket lights or powerful stereo systems. A worn out alternator can cause premature battery failure, poor stereo performance or even dim headlights. One of the best upgrades you can make to your ride is to step up to a more potent new alternator. No longer will you have to worry about electrical problems, with a brand new unit you can blast your stereo, blaze your lights and still have confidence that your vehicle will start in the morning.
