Video Description:Check out this episode of Andy's Auto Sport TV where we explain all the basics about headers. In the video, we explain why headers open up horsepower gains and explain the difference between different types of headers. We also show how to install headers and then show the resulting horsepower gains with our dyno run results!
Fits On:
02-10 WRX / STI
Description:
PERRIN Equal Length Header
Equal Length Design
The equal length design of the PERRIN header, gives you the best of two worlds. Smoother flow of exhaust to the turbocharger allows turbo to spool quicker giving you horsepower and torque are increases thought the entire RPM band.
Designed to fit to the factory uppipe, our header will mate with an OEM or aftermarket uppipe, as well as any rotated turbo kits compatible with the factory header.
Slip Joints
Slip fit joints are used to allow the header to expand and contract under extreme conditions. Slip joints are very tough & durable compared to fragile flex joints which are sometimes constructed of weaker metals. Constructed of 100% 304 stainless steel ensures your headers will last a long time!
Flanges
PERRIN Flanges are CNC machined from 304 stainless steel and counterbored on the back side to make smoother transitions from heads to tubing and header to uppipe.
Sound
Because of it equal length design, the PERRIN header will alter the tone of your exhaust. The exhaust pulses from the engine are equalized and spread out producing a smoother, more refined sound. Some describe the sound to be EVO like similar to an inline four cylinder engine exhaust.
Port Matching
Flange ports sized properly to ensure exhaust coming out of the head has a smooth unobstructed path to the tubes. The ports are not over ported which causes gaskets to burn out quickly.
Oil Pan
Most headers collect on the passenger side of the engine, and due to space constraints, are not equal length, compromising exhaust flow. Because we use the added room provided by the oil pan, we can create a smooth transition of the header primaries to the collectors, and collectors to uppipe, providing more power and torque then the competition.
Compatibility Note:
Direct bolt on for Subaru Turbo Models: 2004+ STIs, 2008+ WRXs, 2005-2009 Legacy GT (fits all Automatic models)
Is not compatible with header wrap material and will void any warranty. Please call with further questions.
02-05 WRX
Requires an STi type oil pan and oil pickup for necessary clearance.
2004-05 FORESTER XT
Requires the STI type oil pan, oil pickup and 2002-2004 WRX oil cooler, for necessary clearance.
2006+ FORESTER X
Requires the 2002-2004 WRX oil cooler.
06+ WRXs
Requires modification to the oil cooler. Please call for details.

Okay, word association time -- what comes to mind when you think of the word "Oregon?" Maybe trees, or the people who hug them? Possibly, but if you're a speed freak like us, you probably think more along the lines of "Rally America" and "Perrin Performance." Perrin, a part of the Alta Performance Group, began manufacturing specialized aftermarket parts more than a decade ago. They cater especially to high-power sport compact cars, including Subarus, Evos, and more. Perrin has the heavy-hitters of Japanese all-wheel drive performance covered with parts that are built in the U.S., and just as importantly, built to last. With the full line of Perrin Performance products available, Andy's Auto Sport is here to help turn your car into a beast!
Q: What does a header do? Why buy a header?
A: An exhaust header is a performance product that replaces your factory exhaust manifold and improves an engine's performance by allowing air to flow more freely. The easier an engine breathes the more power it produces. Headers generally use piping with a wider diameter than factory tubing, which allows more air to pass through the exhaust system than factory. A header is one of the easiest bolt-on modifications you can make to increase horsepower, making an effective use of money if your goal is to quickly gain horsepower.
Q: How do you install a header?
A: A header is a direct bolt-on. Simply remove the factory OEM exhaust manifold and the aftermarket header is put in its place. The header is to be attached the head of your vehicle. Remove all the bolts that hold the flanges in place and detach the factory manifold. The down pipe or exhaust pipe should be removed as well and then reattached once the header flanges are bolted back onto the head.
Q: How much does the material used to make the header matter?
A: There are two main materials that headers are manufactured out of: ceramic and stainless steel. Ceramic headers are less expensive, but are prone to cracking if they get to be extremely hot. Stainless steel headers are more expensive but are more durable and generally more stylish. Stainless steel headers can take any kind of heat you throw at it and not prone to cracking.
Q: What are the different tubing options for headers and what is the difference between them?
A: There are two major designs for headers: the 4-2-1 design and the 4-1 design. In many cases 4-1 headers are designed for racing applications where the vehicle is being driven at or near redline. The 4-1 design maximizes top end power, whereas the 4-2-1 evenly distributes it throughout the power band. Either way, you're going to be getting more horsepower from a header.
Q: For which vehicles is it necessary to buy a pair of headers? On your website are headers automatically sold in pairs for these vehicles?
A: When purchasing exhaust headers for a V-6 or V-8 engine, the header package is complete with two headers. If your vehicle is a 4-cylinder, there only a single header that is used.
