Description:
SPEC billet flywheels are manufactured and developed for specific driving environments and recommended based on how each car reacts to changes in rotating mass. SPEC flywheels are NOT a one-fits-all lightweight flywheel, though they can be used for an array of driving habits and racing/high performance applications. Consult a SPEC representative for a recommendation. Manufactured from only the highest quality steel and aluminum, they are the only flywheels on the market manufactured to a .001 machine tolerance, guaranteeing a flat seating surface for the clutch and smooth rotational qualities for perfect balance and extended engine life. Billet flywheel features all billet timing gear, dowelled and fastened for timing accuracy and extreme rpm integrity.

SPEC clutches have become a mainstay in many forms of motorsports today, and with clutch applications and flywheels for most popular sports cars (and even some exotics), it's no surprise. The company is very actively involved in various racing programs, which allows it to continue to evaluate and improve its products through real-world competition, which is the ultimate test of whether or not the products are doing their jobs. With five stages of clutch discs available, not to mention multi-disc clutches, SPEC is made to handle whatever your driveline can throw at it.
Q: How do you install a flywheel?
A: We recommend professional installation since dropping the transmission or whole motor is usually needed. Once the transmission is off of the block, you can go ahead and remove your clutch setup and flywheel. Replace the factory flywheel with your aftermarket one, and re-install the clutch. (Buying a new clutch is a good idea at this point since it needs to be taken off anyway.)
Q: What does a flywheel do? Why buy a flywheel?
A: A flywheel is a component of your clutch assembly, and can make a huge difference in how your car responds when you press the gas pedal. Lightened flywheels are made out of aluminum or chromoly, which reduces the rotating mass by dramatically trimming weight as compared to your heavy factory OEM flywheel. Because the lighter flywheel has less inertia, the engine doesn't need that much torque (power) to spin the flywheel to reach the certain rpm. The result is your car's rpm will increase faster. Additionally, the reduced weight alone will give you a bump in power.
