Description:
Synapse Engineering's design approach to the Evo 8 & 9 Intercooler Pipe Kit is to eliminate unnecessary flow restrictions and transitions at the turbocharger outlet. We selected Aluminum piping versus Stainless steel for the significant weight savings and the ability to eliminate any unnecessary welds by having a 1 piece smooth mandrel bent design. Aluminum will also have a greater ability to dissipate heat prior to reaching the intercooler at the front of the car. This IC pipe kit is designed to work with the slim/small battery and is intended for use with a Synchronic BOV/DV.
This Speed Density Kit is designed for use with a Synchronic BOV or DV in a Vent to Atmosphere configuration. The kit does not come with the turbo inlet pipe, BOV discharge pipe, air filter, or the couplers used for those pipes. This allows a wide range of intake solutions to be used on the Evo 8 and 9. This configuration is not recommended unless the car is running stand alone engine management or a Speed Density tune.
Mitsubishi Evolution 8 & 9 IC Pipe kits:
• Direct Bolt-On, No-Cutting Required, by Design
• Designed to be used with Stock or Stock Frame Intercoolers
• Smooth Mandrel Bent Design Eliminates Disruptive Flow Transitions
• 2.5 inch Diameter 1-Piece Tubing, Lightweight 6061 Aluminum
• Bead-Rolled Ends for Secure Coupling
• Pipe is made in USA

Synapse Engineering is a performance shop based out of San Diego, California since 1999. Their fields of expertise deals in bypass valves, wastegates, intercoolers, turbocharger piping and accessories.
Synapse has been reinventing pneumatic actuators for flutter dump, compressor surge – issues which plague high-boost turbo setups – with a new technology called "Synchronic". Their products are low-maintenance, bolt-on performance pieces that are designed for easy installation – they supply couplers with matching t-bolt clamps, for instance.
Their Synchronic technology basically redesigns the geometry of a fluid-powered actuator, resulting in improved response and reduced frictional losses. Synapse Engineering takes time and effort with their build and R & D processes and the results speak for themselves.

Q: What are intercooler pipes? Why buy them? How do I know which intercooler pipes to buy?
A: Turbochargers put off a tremendous amount of heat, so in order to maximize power most turbocharged vehicles utilize intercoolers which are essentially radiators that cool off the intake charge. This cooler, denser air is capable of producing significantly more horsepower. In order to connect your intercooler to your engine a series of intercooler pipes are utilized. These pipes come in varying diameters and shapes to accommodate both factory and custom aftermarket intercooler setups. Intercooler pipes also come in both hard (aluminum) and soft (silicone) forms allowing for added strength or flexibility where needed.
Choosing the appropriate intercooler pipes for your setup can be a tricky proposition. The first thing you will want to find out is what diameter pipe you require. You will want to measure both your intercooler inlet/outlet diameter and turbo outlet diameter and get pipes that line up with these measurements. There are couplers that allow you to step up or step down in size if necessary. Once you have established the diameter of the piping you will want to figure out if you need a complete set or just one or two individual pipes. For a custom setup you may have to buy each pipe individually to make the setup work, but if you are replacing a stock intercooler setup a full intercooler piping kit may do the job. Lastly you will want to make sure you have all the necessary flexible couplers and hose clamps to attach the pipes firmly and prevent boost leaks. Never assume that a generic intercooler piping kit will work for your vehicle, do some research first and order as necessary.
