Type HG is designed for rally and / or dirt trail racing. It meets the demands of any road surface with its individual compression / rebound damping force adjustment, and ride height adjustment. Utilizes a twin-tube design, and is constructed with steel for additional durability on rough courses. In order to prevent aeration that can diminish performance, a unique free piston was adapted in the construction of the HG. Developed from TEIN's extensive experience gained in Rally competitions and support.
Damping Force Adjustable -
Damper includes 16 × 16 - way damping force adjustment for both front and rear coilovers, which allows each damper to be set to a possible 256 different adjustment combinations. Compression and rebound are adjusted separately for increased tuning capability. Adjustments are made externally via a Click Assemblies, and made internally via a needle valve which allows or restricts oil flow. Damping force can be changed to tune ride feel (comfort/ performance level), and/or used to adjust handling characteristics (neutral, over-steer, under-steer, etc).
Ride Height Adjustable -
Vehicle ride height adjustable via a threaded shock body and adjustable spring seat. The threaded sleeve is welded to the actual shock body and then Zinc coated for added protection. TEIN engineers have performed vigorous testing to ensure the best possible position and range of the spring seat to ensure the most adjustability. Aluminum spring seats are utilized to reduce ceasing of spring seat to threaded body, and for improved durability.
Twin Tube Internal Design -
A Twin Tube internal design is utilized for increased piston stroke for improved handling and comfort during street use. Another major feature of the Twin Tube design is that is more durable in the case of damage to the actual damper body.
External Reservoir Tank -
Allows for increased oil capacity and increased heat dissipation, which allows the damping force to remain more consistent during long term use. Most effective in racing applications where the vehicle is run for extended time periods. Only available on SA type dampers in which compression and rebound are separately adjustable.
Additional Features:
-Steel Construction for added durability
-Twin Tube internal construction
-Ride Height adjustable via adjustable spring seats
-16 × 16 way adjustable dampers, compression and rebound separately adjustable
-External reservoirs for additional oil capacity and increased stroke
-3 stage powder coat
-Some applications utilize large diameter spring seats which allows both OEM and aftermarket springs to be used
-1-year Manufacturers Defect Warranty
-Available for Overhaul

Q: What do coilovers do? Why buy coilovers?
A: Coilovers allow you to lower your car and give you the ability to make adjustments in ride height. As opposed to lowering springs, which have a pre-determined, un-changing ride height, coilovers can be adjusted. This can be very valuable because if you don't know the exact ride height that will be optimal for your car, buying coilovers gives you the ability to adjust the right height and make it just right. Additionally, if you want to change your ride height based on different driving conditions, coilovers of course allow you to do so.
Q: Why is there such a huge price difference between some coilovers? Are there different types of coilovers?
A: There are two different kinds of coilovers: full coilover systems and coilover sleeves. Coilover sleeves are just the adjustable coils themselves. If you already have shocks or struts and have a camber kit that you're content with, then just buying the coilover sleeves will be adequate. Also, if you are looking for adjustable lowering components that are inexpensive, coilover sleeves are the way to go. Full coilover systems on the other hand come with not only the adjustable coils, but also with replacement shocks or struts and with a built-in camber adjuster. Full coilover systems let you drop your car and maintain or improve ride quality, and maintain even camber. The shocks that are built into full coilovers are specifically made for lowered cars, so they will ensure a great ride quality.
Q: Do coilovers come in sets of 4?
A: Coilovers are only sold in sets of four.
Q: How do you install coilovers?
A: Depending if you opt to go with the full coilover systems or the coilover sleeves, the spring and strut housing will need to be removed. Once the factory coil springs and struts are removed they can be replaced with the full coilover setup. If you're using a coilover sleeve then the factory spring will be removed from the strut setup and replaced with the coilover sleeve unit. A professional shop should install your coilovers as an alignment and corner-balancing services will need to be done at the same time the installation is completed.
Q: Will I need a camber kit after installing coilovers?
A: In some cases you will not need a camber kit, as long as your local alignment can be put back into proper specifications. If not, a camber kit will help by allowing additional adjustment beyond what your factory alignment parts are capable of.
