The down side is that they provide less heat and sound insulation which can mean a noisy and drafty ride. Hard doors are solid steel doors with glass windows just like you would find on a normal vehicle. Designed to be used with a hard top these doors are the most secure and provide the best insulation from noise and temperature. The biggest down side of hard doors is that they are much heavier and more difficult to store than soft units. If you are on the trail and want to take off your doors, hauling your hard doors in the back can prove to be a challenge. Half doors consist of the only the lower half of a standard door.
