Vortech® Universal Carbureted Big Block Chevrolet "Low Mount" Supercharger Kit - Gen 2 - This is a "universal" supercharger kit designed for vehicles equipped with carbureted big block Chevrolet engines. This system requires the installer to supply a high volume fuel pump and properly jetted 4150 style carburetor unit (with mechanical secondaries). We have verified this kit to fit on 1964-1972 Chevrolet Chevelle models equipped with a cowl induction hood and 1964-1972 Chevrolet Malibu models equipped with a cowl induction hood. Minor bottom-side hood support modifications may be required dependingupon the type of intake manifold installed on the engine. This kit may also fit other Chevrolet models, but has not been confirmed.

• Horsepower gains (depending onboost levels, engine volumetric efficiency etc.): 30-75%+.
• Supplied pulley ratio will produce approximately 5-6 psi at 5000 rpm on a mildly modified 454" engine.• Installation time: 4-10 hours depending on application.

• Cast aluminum carburetor enclosure assembly (use with 4150 Holley or Demon Carburetor)
• Enclosure features front and rear –8 fuel inlet ports as well as multiple locations for pressure/vacuum connections. Linkage arms, splined shaft, and left/right hand spherical rod ends are included for simple throttle connection and adjustment.
• Optional fuel line kits are available. They include custom bent stainless steel lines, billet -8 bulkhead adapter with fuel pressure port and plug, -8/-6 junction tee, aluminum swivel hose ends and USCG approved fuel hose. See optional components below for part numbers.
• Warranty Information - No Warranty, No warranty on race/heavy-duty superchargers.

Please Note - This system was designed to fit on engines equipped with a "long" water pump. Vortech® includes a 3-groove accessory drive crank pulley (for use with "long" style water pumps only). If this kit is to be installed on an engine equipped with a "short" water pump, a custom accessory drive crank pulley and spacer will be required. For engines equipped with power steering, a remote reservoir (GM "type 2") style pump will be required as well as an optional Vortech® power steering pump bracket and pulley assembly. Depending on the vehicle, power steering lines may require fabrication. Power steering pump: OE on 1987 GM Pontiac Sunbird, NAPA # 20-874. Vortech® power steering bracket/pulley assembly: 4GA110-010

The Vortech® V-7 YSi-Trim Supercharger combines the advanced technology and race-proven performance of the V-4 model and fits most of our existing mounting bracketry. The V-7 is designed for vehicles with highly modified engines and extreme CFM/boost demands. All units feature our exclusive D-port volute for improved efficiently and require the use of a Vortech Racing Bypass Valve. The heavy duty (H/D) configuration includes high speed, ceramic hybrid ball bearings, ideal for race applications, i.e. cog pulley/Gilmer drive. The V-7 YSi-Trim has a "Large blower" for performance in a smaller package that fits most existing Vortech® bracketry.

The supercharger has proven to be one of the most effective means for obtaining increased power from an internal combustion engine without having to make major engine modifications. This is accomplished by compressing combustion air before it enters the cylinders, which increases density. This results in improved cylinder filling, allowing more air and fuel to be burned in the combustion cycle, with dramatic increases in torque and horsepower.

Vortech® superchargers operate on fundamental and proven turbomachinery principles, first described by Euler's turbomachinery equation developed in the 18th Century. This principle states that the work imparted to a fluid by an impeller is related to the change in angular momentum of the fluid. From these humble beginnings, the centrifugal compressor has evolved and found its way to becoming the most efficient and reliable means for delivering charge air at high pressures. Vortech® has seized upon these known performance advantages and has developed its line of centrifugal superchargers to a performance level that clearly establishes Vortech® as the performance and technology leader in aftermarket supercharging.

Advanced Compressor Stage - Here's where the rubber meets the road. Vortech®'s compressor stages are highly evolved, thoroughly tested designs, resulting from more than 15 years of experience and thousands of production supercharger units. A simple visual examination clearly shows the difference. All Vortech® compressors incorporate sophisticated impeller designs, coupled to a vaneless diffuser, with a progressive scroll, or volute exit stage. Impellers employ advanced aerodynamic features such as optimized inducer blading, splitters, and in some cases, exit rake and backsweep... all depending on the particular pressure/flow objectives. Rather than a simple change of blower speed to effect different "models", each Vortech® supercharger is optimized aerodynamically so that best performance is attained for a specific vehicle application.

In order to effectively take advantage of impeller work, flow must be efficiently diffused so that pressure rise can be generated with minimal losses. Unfortunately, a simple "cut-and-paste" won't work. Instead, the diffuser is optimally matched to the impeller flow physics, with many iterations tested and verified until maximum efficiency is achieved with each supercharger design. Finally, a matched volute effectively collects and diffuses further, resulting in additional pressure rise. The result? Isentropic efficiencies as high as 80%! In fact, all Vortech® compressors achieve at least 72% peak efficiency, with better than 65% efficiency achieved over a majority of design flow range (surge to choke).

Componentry - Vortech® componentry has garnered a reputation for its "best in class" execution. Blower casing components are cast from A356 aircraft-spec aluminum alloy treated to T-6 condition. Modern CNC production cells ensure that part tolerances are held into the "tenths" - to, and in many cases beyond aircraft tolerances.

Impeller - The heart of any centrifugal supercharger is the impeller. Our piece is investment cast from an extremely strong but light-weight proprietary aluminum alloy (similar to that used in turbochargers). This special heat treated material is used because of its stability and enhanced properties at the high operating temperatures ...which may reach 400°F under extreme conditions. At this temperature, the Vortech® impeller is up to 36% stronger than even 7075, a common structural aluminum material used by others. The investment cast process secures close dimensional tolerance and excellent surface finish. Of course, 100% CNC machining ensures exact tolerances. And finally, multi-plane dynamic balancing to better than ISO G0.4 tolerances delivers smooth operation. The historical use of these same procedures in building aircraft turbomachinery components for the most demanding applications proves its durability.

Drive Gear - Drive gears are manufactured from 8620 and 9310 carburized billet alloy steels. These premium grade materials possess exceptional strength and durability, with enhanced core toughness properties. The gear teeth are CNC precision ground. The internal step-up drive system is engineered to reliably support impeller speeds exceeding 70,000 rpm.

Bearings - Vortech® bearings are ultra-high precision (ABEC 7/ABEC 9) pieces that are Made In The USA. Most are custom manufactured to our specifications. Aircraft quality is truly an understatement here, since these bearings experience speeds as much as twice that of a jet engine.

Lubrication System - Vortech® offers both engine-oil-fed and internally lubricated superchargers. V-3 units are factory prefilled with our special synthetic fluid - no oil lines necessary. All other units are lubricated by engine oil that is pre-filtered and injected directly onto the drive gears.

Q: How do you install a supercharger?
A: Superchargers are vehicle-specific, and they will come with everything needed for a direct bolt-on.

Q: Does a supercharger kit come with everything you need? Or is there a pre-condition my vehicle needs to meet in order to be able to handle a supercharger kit?
A: When purchasing a supercharger setup they are vehicle specific which means it will come with everything needed for a direct bolt-on. If you're looking to up the boost past the stock 6 to 8 psi that it comes with stock other modifications will need to be made.

Q: What does a supercharger kit do? Why buy a supercharger?
A: A supercharger is a form of forced induction. Superchargers offer perhaps the most dramatic increase in horsepower to your car of any aftermarket products. By compressing the air, it lets the engine stuff more air into a cylinder. More air means that more fuel can be stuffed in, too, so you get more power from each explosion in each cylinder. A supercharger's power supply comes from a belt that connects directly to the engine. It gets its power the same way that your water pump or alternator does.
